Millermatic 211

I was bored tonight. Thought I would run a few beads with a mig. Well, I fired up the 211. Things were going good until I heard a pop! Then the welds were all covered with brown smoke. I was blowing holes through the 16 gauge-like I had cranked up the amps.

I believe it is a gas problem. I always shut the valve on the tank-then switch it to spool gun and hit the trigger to bleed off the pressure on the system. Tonight, when I shut it off, my regulator didn't move.

What do you think? Cruizer! Got any ideas?

Can you detect gas flow? Open up the feed rollers to stop the gas feed, and see if you can hear or feel any gas flow.

You could disconnect the gas line between the regulator and the welder and see if it seems to be flowing more or less normally, that is can you shut off the flow by adjusting the regulator, and turn it back on.

The POW probably means something to someone, maybe the gas solenoid blew up. Easy enough to check the voltage across the gas solenoid and see if you see voltage when you pull the trigger.

Cruizer and others will have other ideas, probably better ones.

Yeah! I switched it to spool gun, no wire feed. There was no gas coming out of the nozzle. I just don't know if it is something on the boards-or if it is the gasvalve in the machine. I weld-don't know how to repair them!

Backtrack a little. Take your spool gun gas hose off where you hooked it by the feed rollers. Then push the spool gun trigger and see if gas comes out there. Bob
