  • Spoolmatic 30A TIP confusion......

    Hi All
I ordered tips fo my 30A spoolmatic from an internet supplier.. and recieved tips for the XR.... when I called them to get the problem resolved.. was told that my gun must have been special ordered with the fastip option.. which it was not.. Miller literature both the sales flyer and owners manual both list the fastip as the only style.. at least as of April 2003...
My question is.. did the 30A ever share the nonthreaded tips with the XR or were these guys just trying to feed me wet rose food???
    Thanks

    Heiti

    Hi
I emailed the supplier with links to the Miller sales flyer and the owners manual... got a curious response...
    have excerpted the email:

"It appears they have made the Fastip swan neck the standard neck on this
gun. Also, after a quick review, it appears this spool gun is manufactured
by someone other than the "Old" supplier. The gun is not the same
    construction as previous."

OK guys is this true? or are my roses really gonna give big blooms this year????
    How about it Scott? Andy?.....

    thanks
    Heiti

      Heiti,

Miller has introduced the "FasTip" in the 30A. I think I have some contact tips for my old 30A. Let me see what they are. I found them stashed in a cabinet. The package listing is:
      XR /XRM -15A/30A and 15W/30W
      XR Edge and Spoolmatic 30A/30W
      Consists of : 10 (135427) contact tips .030/.036ID
They are not threaded. These are not the fast tip. So you need part number 135427 for the 30A spoolmatic prior to the fast tip introduction. This is what I use for .035 wire. I think they are for .030 wire as well, but I don't go that small. I only run .035 and 1/16" aluminum.

Yes the XR and 30A shared the same non threaded tips at one time according to this package.

      Does this help?

          H80N,

I know the new 2004 Miller catalog shows the 30A with the "FasTip". I have a newer XR edge gun I bought late in 2003 around August or September and it has the (FasTip). My guess is Miller changed around the 4th quarter of 2003 in the XR and the 30A. Let me know if you can't get the tips. My dealer keeps .035, .045, and I think .052 on the shelf.

            H80N,
The 30A and the XR guns shared the same non-threaded tip until late last year. The official date they changed completely over to the fas-tip was 11-17-03. The 30A you have is one of the first 30A's sold with the fas-tip as standard equipment. The XR guns also changed to the fas-tip last year.

That is one of the great things about boards such as this. There is such a diverse group with so much experience and knowledge available here that we all can learn.

Thanks to you, Hawk and everyone else that contributes their knowledge and experience to this board.
