As with all machines, all brands, some stuff is made in various countrys, Some China, Some Poland, Some Italy. And your point is.

Hopefully your not relating this to Longevity C.R.A.P., As we will put an end to your rant pretty fast.

In my opinion it comes down to quality control and after purchase services. Something miller has always offered. Like cruizer said parts are not all made here. And you have sites like this one with other like minded people to ask for help or advice.
        .
        Miller Bobcat 225NT onan
        Millermatic 211
        Spoolmate 100
(Retapped to fit regular mig tips)
Work better & less parts to stock.
        Miller 130xp
        T/A Dragster 85 (portability 11 pounds)
        Oxygen/Acetylene torch set 50'
        2. 4-1/2" grinders
        1. 9" grinder
        14" Makita chop saw
        1/2" Aircat impact gun 900#

You have this same question posted on other web forums. Does it really matter?

Some raw materials are simply not available from an American source. Look at Rare Earth elements. China produces 95% of the world's supply.

80% of failures are from 20% of causes

Lanthanum, Cerium, Ytterbium, Yttrium, Scandium, Praseodymium, Neodymium, Holmium, just to name a few. Required in the production of small motors and semiconductors. These are found in trace quantities around the world, but China is the only place producing significant qualities of them and they basically have a monopoly on them which is more of a result of the distribution of these elements in the Earth's crust than willingness to work. Although, if we did try to exploit the small quantity of reserves we have, I'm sure OSHA, the EPA, and the People's Democratic Republic of California would kill that off.

Since China has a monopoly on rare earths and strictly limit exports, they are the only ones competitively producing the switching semiconductors you find in a solid state welding power supply.

Actually, the us is starting to produce rare earths again. The mountain pass mine in California is being (or has been) reopened.... At least that's the last I've heard.

On the other hand, the US has no known/useful deposits of chromium ore or titanium ore (iirc) . The sr-71's titanium all came from the USSR.

As to the original question, the answer is no, not all parts are made in the US. The gun and it's cord on my mm140 had a big red maple leaf sticker on it...

The current reason China sells more rare earths is they do it cheaper, and since part of them doing it cheaper involves horribly polluting China I'll take the trade! "Rare earths" aren't all that "rare" but they are expensive to produce and exploring for more also costs money.

There is nothing any country can sanction the US can't spend the money to work around. That's also why trade sanctions on "countries the UN is p1zzed off at" aren't very effective.

China isn't going to mess with the US (Cold War-style genital waving excepted and the US does that too) for the very simple reason that MONEY is the most important thing in the world (even freedom is useless without it).

The Chinese ruling class have massive investments abroad subject to confiscation in the event of war just like Axis assets were in WWII. The rich have one thing in common. They want to stay that way, and if the winds change in China their elites want a good foreign bugout location with their bank accounts beyond the reach of Beijng.

The NSA are so good at backdooring even foreign hardware I'm not worried about the US buying from China. Trade is the strongest incentive to peace and war is expensive. It's cheaper to get resources by buying them from corrupt local governments in Africa than invading then having to run the show. Big boy politics uses money before bullets.

the main thing is an imbargo

in the late 70s we had an old imbargo i don't know how many people were in gas lines but they were usealily lined up on the street every one felt they had to fill up there car every day complete madness fights and bedlem i never ran out of gas or waited in line my gas tank on my nova was bad where the fill tube met the tank only a 1/2 tank or it wood leak and 3 on the tree hand shaker 6 banger you younger people probly don't know what that is our presadent jimmy carter said we are going to save the gas and caped the speed limit to 55 mph jimmie said we are not going to bow to opec that use to set the oil prices and it worked the only presedent not to bow to big oil wallstreet sets the price now ( 1 dollare a gallon for the speculaters) the price jumped from 34 cence to 75 sence and then we seemed to find all the gas we wanted history dose repeat its self that is one constant in this world

It's ironic you say only you old farts can still do things with a pencil and paper, yet in one sentence you misspell "cents" twice. Before preaching check your grammar and spelling.
