We have a Lincoln Idealarc 250/250, a Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC and a Syncrowave 250. My son is the welder and, with limited experience, likes the Dialarc for stick. But the Idealarc is new to us and the Syncro is set up for TIG. The 3 units in total were $1,500. bucks, so no big deal.

Why are you guys yapping about huffing the Lincoln in the back of the truck. your not about to toss the Miller in the back of any truck either.... Unsure where this all came up.

Yes the Lincoln 250 Has a better arc due to the fact that its a stick welder only, it has a massive stabilizer coil. The Miller is set up for primarily Tig. It has a small stabilizer coil.

So of course the Lincoln welds better, however, the stick may not be used often enough to support the extra room, and really the Miller is adequate

An Idealarc is a very robust stick welder. When I read "Lincoln ac/dc, I didn't even read 250 and just assumed you had an ac/dc tombstone. You also aren't going to pick that up and toss it in a truck.

Why don't you just try it yourself and find out????? What is the point of this thread? If you are incapable of setting a couple welders up, and deciding which is better, just flip a coin, it won't make any difference to you either way anyhow.

The 250 sync is a good stick welder. It has much more bells and whistles compared to your Idealarc. It draws more current to run and potentially can have more problems than a plain Jane idealarc due to all the bells and whistles.

If your Lincoln is an Idealarc and not a 225 ac/dc I would suggest you give the Synchro a workout on stick rod before you haul that Lincoln out with the trash. The Synchro is primarily a TIG welder that can stick weld. The Idealarc is primarily a stick welder. Not everyone is in love with the stick capabilities of TIG welders, even good TIG welders. On the other hand if you are rarely going to need a stick welder now as you intend to TIG weld most of what you do, why not, removing the Lincoln will give you room in your workspace. $0.02---Meltedmetal

You'll ditch the Lincoln after you use the syncro.

The arc is much smoother with a Synchrowave. But let me see you bear-hug it and toss in a truck to take to a friend's house. Come to think about it, that's a really good reason to prevent someone from borrowing it.
