Does regular prestone work as coolant for a 250 dx Sycrowave???
The old Dialarc called for Deionized Water, or Miller approved anti freeze. Of course, on AC the HF stayed on all the time. Voltage and frequency being what they are on HF I like to use coolant with low conductivity. That said, Zap uses sink water, and I used it for a couple of weeks with the Dynasty without a problem. Lots of things can influence water's conductivity. My father, an industrial electrician used to load test big circuit breakers with a salt water resistor. It was a glass barrel with a copper plate at the bottom, and a movable copper plate at the top. Very little current would flow in pure water, more current flowed in salt water of various concentrations.

I was surprised to read in my Coolmate 4 manual that Distilled or De-ionized water can be used and the recommended life was 6-months (12-months for the anti-freeze) to prevent algae growth in the coolant.
Where in contact with aluminum, use Aluminum Protecting Coolant No. 043 809
All things considered... real TIG coolant is pretty reasonable taking into account your investment...especially of there are warrantee issues... there are some more generic brands available at some LWS that cost way less rhan the Miller Product

I going to go ahead and throw another question out there. My synchro 350s coolmate hasn't been serviced (coolant changed) in quite a while. The flow meter or the spinner thing on the front has slowed way down. The pump is noisey and I'm sure it needs changed bad. What is the best way to flush it and what is the best to use?

Would be willing to bet that the strainer on the pump is at least partially clogged...
I would check and clean that first... THEN flush with distilled/deionized water a couple of times... again cleaning or replacing strainer... before refilling with coolant
Pump likely to quiet down and flow spinner should speed up too...
I agree with H80N, I spent the extra money on the miller coolant, Whatever you decide to use make sure you at least use distilled water to mix with the antifreeze at a minimum.

Were you able to get that sorted out??

I haven't been able to get to it. LWS has to order the coolant. I plan on tearing into the xmt tomorrow and checking out that boost relay Cruizer spoke to me about so I may jump on the coolmate also. A little follow up on the air compressor that played out... Got a brand new 340 quincy sitting there ready to be hooked up so hopefully I'll be getting the plasma off the med air cylinders.
