Got a brand new 340 quincy sitting there ready to be hooked up so hopefully I'll be getting the plasma off the med air cylinders.
    No shortage of projects there...

    I know the feeling...

    AND winter on the way...

    PLS keep us posted...

The flow meter or the spinner thing on the front has slowed way down. The pump is noisey and I'm sure it needs changed bad. What is the best way to flush it and what is the best to use?

I would check and clean that first... THEN flush with distilled/deionized water a couple of times... again cleaning or replacing strainer... before refilling with coolant

Pump likely to quiet down and flow spinner should speed up too...
Were you able to get that sorted out??

I agree with H80N, I spent the extra money on the miller coolant, Whatever you decide to use make sure you at least use distilled water to mix with the antifreeze at a minimum.

Snowbird is on the money...but will add a little more....

I would stay away from automotive antifreeze as most contain a "WaterGlass" stop leak that can clog torch, pump and cooler..

RV antifreeze is an option if you watch the brand and read the MSDS to make sure it does not contain alcohol.. (Thank You Cruizer for the caveat)

All things considered... real TIG coolant is pretty reasonable taking into account your investment...especially of there are warrantee issues... there are some more generic brands available at some LWS that cost way less rhan the Miller Product

I was surprised to read in my Coolmate 4 manual that Distilled or De-ionized water can be used and the recommended life was 6-months (12-months for the anti-freeze) to prevent algae growth in the coolant.

Where in contact with aluminum, use Aluminum Protecting Coolant No. 043 809

The old Dialarc called for Deionized Water, or Miller approved anti freeze. Of course, on AC the HF stayed on all the time. Voltage and frequency being what they are on HF I like to use coolant with low conductivity. That said, Zap uses sink water, and I used it for a couple of weeks with the Dynasty without a problem. Lots of things can influence water's conductivity. My father, an industrial electrician used to load test big circuit breakers with a salt water resistor. It was a glass barrel with a copper plate at the bottom, and a movable copper plate at the top. Very little current would flow in pure water, more current flowed in salt water of various concentrations.

    Thanks!!!
