LN-25 - Help.

I can weld flat, vertical & horizontal with my LN-25, but when it comes to overhead no way . It acts like the wire speed is all of a sudden turned down to near zero wire feed speed.

Any ideas why this is happening ?

What wire, what power source, what shielding gas??

A LN-25 is simply a feeder, any problems you are having have nothing to do with the wire feeder itself.

And also, assuming you've run a few hundred pounds of wire thru your gun, when was the last time you replaced the liner??

Wire is .035"- 70S6 & the gas is C-25.- power source = Lincoln Ranger 8
Everything works fine in all positions except overhead ?
The liner was changed a couple weeks ago .

I have no problems welding overhead with any of my voltage sensing feeders.

I assume your Ranger 8 has a CV setting and you are using it.

Several possibilities come to mind.
1. You are putting a sharp bend in the cord right past the gun, which can create drag on the wire.
2. You are not maintaining the proper stickout. As stickout varies, voltage varies, then wirespeed will vary.
3. Quality of the ground matters, especially on a voltage-sensing feeder. Both the ground clamp from the welder and the clip from the feeder need to be on clean metal.
4. You do have the correct drive wheel, and properly tensioned? When going overhead, especially if the feeder is on the ground and I am up in the air, I will sometimes tighten the tension up a turn or two. Those sharp bends can make the wire slip in the drive roller.

Thanks, I'll check the things you mentioned, but I'm pretty sure there's something else causing the problem.

I can be welding on the same piece, flat or vertical & no problems. Then I try to do an overhead weld & it acts like the wire feed is reduced to near zero. Maybe if I tighten up the pressure the drive wheel for overhead it may help.

Double check to be sure you are hooked up CV and not CC, liner, contact tip, smooth .035 drive roll, check your V sense clamp and connections.

Also, your cable may be loose in your gun. Try another gun if you can, or pull the shields off and check the crimps. Going over head may put enough of a different strain on it to reveal a loose connection there.
