Does anyone have an online source for Chem Sharp? BRWelder.com does not carry it and I have not seen it listed anywhere else.

Hoping my Dynasty 200DX and Spectrum 625 get delivered tomorrow!

Give them a call. I'm sure they can locate a dealer or sell direct.
It's not the most popular stuff in the world and takes some trial and error to get it right. I pretty much use it for most applications on the Dynasty.

The Dynasty has a short circuit protection built in. Extend your tungsten and inch or so beyond the cup. create your arc: "lift arc" or Hi Freq and when the tungsten turns cherry red dip the end(3/8") or less into the chemical sharpener. It will begin to burn hotter and start to point. Gently continue dipping the end in and out of the powder(chem sharp) and rotate it to achieve the desired point. If you stick the tungsten too deep, you will have nothing left. It's kinda like watching a racoon trying to wash a sugar cube. Too much washing and it's gone.

Sharpens Tungstens without Grinding, Splintering, Flat Spots or Ridges.

Pointing Tungsten electrodes using the Tig torch as a heat source.

Proceedure: Extend Tungsten stick out approx. 1" beyond the shield cup. Short out Tungsten against grounded work piece until it glows cherry red about 3/8" up from the tip. Quickly immerse the heated Tungsten approximately 1/4" deep into the powder, repeatedly, until the desired point is formed.

5 oz. (142gr.) Jar contains enough for up to 500 sharpenings.

Chem Sharp and BRWelder savings

Thanks. My local shop can get it for $10 (regularly $17) so I'll probably just do that. I've saved so much online that I DO want to spend some money locally occasionally. It wasn't clear to me which items weldingdirect.com didn't charge shipping for.

All told I have have saved about $1800 off of list (about 30%)and taxes by going w/ BRWelder.com for my recent purchases. The only thing that hasn't arrived is the contractor's kit.

congrats on the new equipment... you will get years of fun and productivity out of them... not to mention the "win new friends and amaze the neighbors" factor... you got a well rounded combination of good equipment...
btw.. if the kit does not arrive in a timely fashion.. do not hesitate to email or call Bob at B&R he is a good guy but very busy in a small shop (is how the good prices happen)... and sometimes things do slip through the cracks...

No. Thanks for the advice and sorry for not responding. Much of that stuff will not work for my project, but I can definitely see it working for other stuff. I have checked out the LANL surplus and wasn't too impressed, but wasn't looking for stock at thge time either. I want to go to the ABQ places and see as well.

Just in case Reliance in ABQ is too much $$, know of any good sources for 2x12 mild steel tubing (1/16, 1/8 1/4 wall) and SS all-thread?

Would need to be shipped to SF, NM.

lot of cleanroom stuff being made in abq so the scrappers should have a good selection of useable ss stuff

and if you are going to do what i think you are with the ss allthread.. (suspend cabinets and stuff from the ceiling) you might consider regular allthread and sheath it in ss tube..could save ya a bunch om money 8=}

Thanks for the numbers. I will probably go with Reliance since they have a pretty good fab shop (I'm going to be doing a portion of my stairs out of one piece of bent diamond plate (multiple bends)) and they have a good relationship w/ the guy that will help me get his prices.

The allthread will actually be used, instead of cable, for some railing horizontals. If I can afford it. Otherwise cable. Now that I think about I could look into some SS tubing over cable or allthread. I'm looking for small diameter element to the design that looks good but isn't too much money.

i'll try to get the latest pix from the architect.
