  • How to adjust a flowmeter?

Hey guys, this is Trucks.I am a new member, and I have a question it may already be answered somewhere in here, but I don't know where to look. How or when do I adjust the flowmeter on a Millermatic200 for different amperages, and different materials (aluminum spoolgun with straight argon)I use 75-25 on steel.Up until now I just left the flowmeter on about 20, but I just recently read a post on a site that said it is supposed to be adjusted accordingly to the amperage, and material.I just got the aluminum spoolgun it is an old spoolamatic1.I love it I just have to learn to weld all over again, as so far I have learned that on aluminum I have to double the heat, and gas. When I first got the gun I tried to weld on the same heat settings that I use for steel, and I learned that it would not burn in at all!!I know the question may not have all the facts, but pleas do the best you can.I love this site, and this forum.I look forward to your replies.

    Thanks, and GOD bless you!!

20-25scfh is the norm for C-25, and I know some who run 12-15. For windy conditions or spray transfer you would run higher. Consult your manual; it should give you guidelines.

Thanks dude!! I don't know what you're calling c-25 though? Is it what I'm calling 75-25? or is it what I use for aluminum(straight Argon)

      Thanks

I always run 20-25 cfh. with the 75/25 and I will usually keep it the same with the argon on aluminum. Yes C-25 and 75/25 are the same thing. Also be aware that too high of a gas flow rate can cause turbulance in the shielding atmosphere and draw outside air in, which can lead to porosity and other weld defects. Best of luck.
