If you are looking for something on the cheaper end I would look at thermal arc. I have a plasma from that company (all victor now) and when I had a warranty issue with the torch it was no hassle to replace. Went to AirGas, they handled it and it was all better. There is some accountability there. Something to think about.
      MillerMatic 251
      Maxstar 150 STH
      Cutmaster 42
      Victor Journeyman OA

A rockcrawler, er money pit, in progress...

I've used Thermal Arc years ago, seemed to be a decent TIG unit, I'll have to see what they have now, good call

they are an excellent entry level TIG machine with all of the Miller service and support network as close as your LWS..??

I believe some of the TA and TD units are made by Shanghai WTL. Pretty good stuff. Here's a video about their factory. Note the blue unit at 3:12 in the video. Looks like a Cutmaster plasma.

WTL was founded in 1993 and from then has been designing and manufacturing high quality electrical welding and plasma cutting equipment. Focused passionately...
            Miller stuff:
            Dialarc 250 (1974)
            Syncrowave 250 (1992)
            Spot welder (Dayton badged)

              Nice Video.... BUT...

No mention of a connection to Thermal Arc....

or a U.S. Service and support network??

all we know for sure is that WTL produced an impressive looking video ...

Guess if people want to be the beta testers and report back with their long term experience... it is their dime...

why not deal with a known quantity with a long term proven track record

              of quality, service and support...??

after all we are not discussing this on the Thermal Arc board are we..??

Op wanted an inexpensive welder. The victor family provides that along with great support and a great warranty. Seems like a good place to start. Maybe down the line he wants a miller, but the brand of the sponsor of the this forum does not dictate that we can't talk about anything else.

Just mentioning it. Believe it or not as you like. I've seen other inside factory pictures with TD plasma cutters going through the line. I wanted to know since I bought that TA 161STL. Seems like TA has an exclusive here. In Italy, WTL does sell under their own name. In other parts of Europe, ESAB has their Buddy Arc and Buddy TIG machines - tell me they are not from the same factory.
