MSW 42 Spot Welder Question

I acquired a MSW 42 portable spot welder today and have a question.

Is the on/off switch supposed to stay in the on or off position when activated ?

Reason I ask is mine won't stay in the "on" position unless it's held there --

makes it hard to squeeze the tongs while holding the switch on.

Is that normal ? If not, is there a repair that can be done to the switch, or am I out $80 to replace it?

I believe thats completely normal as you certainly don't want those tongs live if someone bumps into it. Kinda makes sense doesn't it? The ones I work on are on a preset timed panel

OK, if that's correct it sure makes it hard to use ....

I'll have to get used to it.

I may have to clamp the tongs on the metal, then hit the switch.

Tried doing it that way today and it works good.
