Thought I was just welding for a hobby, this past time is becoming very useful.

There's a wintery storm coming our way and this county has a bad habit of losing electric way too easy. So I took a trip to Lowes to buy a generator. After looking at a couple of cheapy generators and realizing that it would sit around for months not being used, I had one of those "Power of Blue" attacks and decided to go to the LWS.

I walked out with a new Bobcat 250. The clean waveform that this thing produces is far superior to that cheap stuff. No worries about being without power. I love this blue stuff. Good quality stuff.

How many hours can these things go before an engine or gen overhaul? What's your experience with that?

I know the feeling very well. I went to adult education classes to hobby weld. Now I weld nights and weekends. My trailblazer 302 got me through hurricane Sandy. Forgot to mention I finally went to welding school to learn how to weld correctly. Lots of luck with the new welder.

I bought my bobcat 250 (propane) used. When I was looking I saw a lot of them with 3000 hours or more. Seeing that I felt safe buying mine with 607 hours. I drove around all holiday weekend with it in the back of my pick up, we were supposed to have a storm. But it never showed, but better to have it at home and not work if I needed it

Stock engine manual recomendations, crate till death at around 3K hours.

Cruizer, I'd like to add to JSFAB question. I assume you're referring to 5w-50 weight Quaker oil? You've obviously had experience with running these engines over 10k hours with this oil & filter combo. How often in hours do you change the oil? I'm a believer in synthetics, especially after talking to folks in machine shops.
Also, no way I'm wait 100 hrs to change the oil as the manual says. Maybe 50 at the very most. Probably not necessary, but for peace of mind.

I just gave a cousin of mine my 1995 Trail blazer with a onan and it had approximately 2600 hrs on it.

Just before I gave it away I had to put a coil on it, That was the first repair its had done since 1995 other than routine maintenance.

Full flow filers don't have springs in them, and when you look in them, the filter element is pretty clear. so I use, Factory Kohler, or Lubrifiner PH2835, Sometimes Perkins 140517050, same filter. As for oil , its 5-50 Quaker or Connoco Triton, 5-40 Diesel oll.

The oil that comes with the new welder is ****. change it out imediately


Now all these units take 2L oil EXACTLY, don't screw the freaking cap back on to check it.
