Whats the difference in Miller vs. Lincoln Tig welders.They weld all the same but they have different names.I am looking on buying a nifty purchase next year.I want to buy a good machine but don't want to buy a junk.A lincoln sales reprasentitive said Millers are to be in the repair shop more than Lincolns but I am guessing those are engine driven due to the rough use that they are do for.Please give me some info on this question so I make a wise purchase you know because have you ever heard the saying ford vs. chevy?

I have owned red and blue machines. The only Lincoln I ever liked was the SquareWave 175 tig/stick machine. I have used new and old Lincoln electric and engine drives. They had a good machine in the old Pipeliner engine drive with a pure dc generator for 6010 pipe welding. Excluding those 2 machines it's hard to give red a good recommendation from my personal experience.
I do most all my work on the road. No matter what the process or alloy the Trailblazer 301G engine drive or the Dynasty 200DX gets the job done. I have never had any trouble with either of these machines. I have owned other Miller machines for years without so much as a hint of trouble.
If I were a Lincoln sales representative, I'd be talking to Miller about a job selling "real" welders. That's my honest opinion. It has been shaped by hard work and thousands spent and earned over the years. -
i see alot of people making $$$$ with lincolns as well.Lincoln were the first welders to come into the market.They still are the only competitor for miller.I though find both brands of welding machinery put to good use!whoomp there it isComment

Both are good machines. From experience I can say Miller has a better product with excellent customer service, technical support, and faster response to problems and/or questions. As I posted previously, the older Lincolns were great machines. They have taken some short cuts to be price competitive in today's market: aluminum rather than copper windings, lower quality components and housings-just to name a few. If you like pull the top off a Bobcat 225 and a Ranger 8 or 9 and take a look. This picture is worth a thousand words. I am not writing to convine you Miller is a better machine. I have owned them both and spent much time with weld engineers and testers. There is no substitute for the long haul. Both brands perform well in the short run. Look on down the pike!

Admittedly Lincoln's engine drives from the days of old were good machines. I believe I mentioned liking the old Pipeliner in an earlier post. I don't know about your Bobcat. I guess everybody gets a lemon now and then. The Bobcat next door is 15 years old and used everyday. My Trailblazer is a newer machine. I keep it well maintained and am hoping for the best. Miller has only disappointed me in one machine. The little Maxstar 140 "ain't" much!
No matter who's opinion someone goes with, they are just opinions. Both Miller and Lincoln are still manufacturing machines in todays marketplace, therefore they must both be a decent product. However, I stand tall with my belief that Miller has always been a better machine MOST OF THE TIME. LINCOLN HAS MADE SOME KILLER MACHINES THROUGH THE YEARS. WHAT HAPPENED?Comment
