  • What generator would be good for a mm200?

So I have a MultiMatic 200 and I'm wondering what generator I get to run my welder at MAXIMUM performance? Got any suggestions? Thanks guys!

Considering the input power needed to run your machine, I would say that a 3000 continuous watt generator would be plenty. As for the brand, that would depend on your budget.

      A MM200 is pretty hefty, its a 50A service machine. I would think 8 K or better.

He's talking about the new multimatic 200 not the old millermatic 200. The MM200 threw me off also. Just shows some of us are getting older.

Hahahah! Sorry guys, I was just trying to abreviate my title... But I have a coleman that's rated at 3600 continuos, It has an 8 hp brigs and straton on it, its older.... when I start to weld itbogs down and dies on minimum settings. And as for quality either 1st or 2nd teir brand name generators

That's still way too small for the multimatic

            3000/240v= 12.5 amps

The Multmatic draws 18amps at rated 150 welding amps Mig and 20 amps Stick

            20amps x 240v = 4800 watts continuous so yer looking for a genset that is around 5500watts

Sorry about that. You are definitely right about the wattage. I was stuck on stupid for a minute and was estimating from my head and posted the wattage on the 120V side instead of the 240V.

As for the brand, I have always went with the Generac and have never been disappointed.

In my opinion, Generac and Honda are at the top of the list.

Broccoli is right on point. Also you gotta think if you are gonna run lights off of it, tools etc etc etc. I would go at least 7500.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't already suggested an engine drive weld machine.

A bit more weight and price but you can open many more doors by going that route.

Not to mention a miller or lincoln gas welder costs less than an equivalent Honda. Also to be noted is engine drive welders advertise continuous watts not peak watts like generators

                        Thanks Weldonwelding,
For some reason I didn't realize that, Mine is the same and I was thinking they were stating 11,000 continuous but I guess it's not. Its Accu-Rated,,, LOL well crap.

                        From Miller:

                        Accu-Rated™– Not Inflated Generator Power

Miller’s Accu-Rated™ 11,000 watts (12,000 with EFI) of usable peak power is delivered for a minimum of 30 seconds. Accu-Rated means peak power is usable for maximum generator loads such as plasma cutting, Millermatic® MIG welders and motor starting. Accu-Rated peak power beats the competition’s very shortduration peak or surge power. Use your peak power, it’s more than a number.

Tractor Supply had a Generac 7500(continuous 9350 peak) for $800 last month. That's way less than a good used bobcat with a 2 yr warranty. Guess the big question is are you gonna run it for 40+ hrs a week or bout 4. If you gonna work the thing then you need a bobcat.

Lol guess I stand corrected on the rating. I just remember the older rangers like the 8 were advertised on continuous. When I bought my 305g I guess I didn't notice the peak rating and just the continuous.

Think we were talking REAL generators, not chinese junk. The generac lineup put out the crappiest of crappy power. Almost don't know where the sinewave is on one of these when its on a scope. good for RV's maybe,,,
