New mm251 & 375

Dude,
Your jump to the 251 was a fine move. The 175 was "electronic" as well, just with out meters. The 375 is also a nice light fab unit. It may struggle with the 1/2" but will handle the 3/8" fine.

Definately don't lose any sleep worrying about moving up to the Millermatic 251 you will not be disappointed. The digital meters are very reliable and the unit is easy to set.

As for the Spectrum 375 it is an excellent choice for a home or light fab. shop. The Spectrum 375 is an extremely versatile and portable tool that will provide you with many years of service.

I have been Tig and stick welding for the last 15 years. I have a very part time weekend repair welding and light fab business (as well as a few 23T frames). I have wanted to add a mig and plasma cutter, as I have to turn down jobs that would take much to long to tig, would take to much heat from stick, and to precision to flame cut.75% of the mild steel I see is .125-.375 with some .500.
I bought a MM175 at the Goodguys in Pleasanton a few weeks ago. Found this site that night. As much as I hated to do it, the 175 would have to be returned for a MM21 or 251. Very tough decision. I got the 251, hope I made the right decision. Guess I'm in the Electronics Age now.

Looked at Miller 375, Hypertherm 380, and the Hobart400?. They all turn out to be the same machine. Guy at Hypertherm said Miller makes the machines, but buys the torch from them. Miller uses a different nose and cup thread on the 375 and Hobart so only they can sell the parts. Wound up with the miller as it came with some free cool acces.

Thank God everything is on sale. I feel that I can pay for the machines with in a year, as I won't have to turn jobs away.

Pleas let me know what you think about my choices. Still worry about the 251 being digital with out taps.....

I'm new to the Plasma cutter. Don't see any charts for amp settings on different thickness materials? Any Ideas?

Hope my 16 year old Lincoln Tig 250\250 will get use to the "SEA OF BLUE" One of the best old school tig machines around, even today...
