ESAB Coreshield 8

Has anyone ran this before? The wire I am looking at is 1/16" I believe. I was thinking of picking it up to run in my MM251 for the occasional job where I need it. I usually run 035 htp 70s6 wire and c25 gas. I don't have too much experience with fluxcore so I figured I would ask this group.

be carefull if you have a M-25 gun as the fluxcore 75/25 combo will fry your gun if not carefull. I use it everyday and she gets hot....Bob

I do have the m25, but I was thinking that as it is setup with a smaller liner for solid wire I should just get something like a q300 for the bigger fluxcore so I don't need to worry much about changing liners. I think the coreshield 8 is selfshielded as well.

Coreshield 8 is a completely different animal from the E70S6 wire you have been using...It takes a different technique to run in all positions.Mainly used in structural steel fabrications that require a seismic rated weld filler...

Go to the Lincoln website, read up on innershield wires, especially NR-232. It's a T-8 wire like Coreshield 8. The ESAB product is much more user-friendly than 232, but needs to be run the same way. NO WEAVING. Also remember, most T-8 wires will NOT run thru a MIG gun and liner, the liner is just too light and wippy for a stiff wire, sometimes you can never get a good consistent wire feed because of the drag. There's a reason for more expensive flux-core only guns.

Coreshield 8 is defineitely easier to run than 232. That being said, it likes to be run hot and fast, and I don't know that a MM251 could handle 1/16.

I would suggest NR 211, which can be had in .035 and .045

You will overheat your 251 & gun running 1/16" wire. Try .045". I like Hobart fabshield 21B or my second choice is Lincoln NR212.

Thanks for the help. I decided to pass. It was a good deal which is why I was asking about it. 25# for $50 or possibly $40. I'll look into some .045 wire, probably fabshield.
