  • Bobcat 225-G and air compressors?

    Andy,

I own a 225-G Bobcat welder/generator and I wonder what is the largest sized electric motor I can start with it? I'd like to get an air-compressor to run off of it, but I'm not sure how big I can go and still have it kick-over on startup. Do you have any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Sean,

Your Bobcat is an 8000 watt unit. I have started some 3hp compressors with it but it depends on the efficiency of the motor and the motor starting code usually found on the nameplate of the motor. As a rule of thumb, you can triple the running watts to figure starting watts. As I said before, that depends on the quality of the motor. Best thing to do would be to take your machine down to test the compressor you wish to buy. If they want to make the sale, they should let you take the floor model out to check it.
