Currently, I am investigating several TIG devices, with the intent to purchase one device. It seems as if Miller is one of the most common, most liked, and most popular names. One of my concerns is air cooled versus water cooled. Lincoln makes the invertec 205, which I am considering. I am also considering the Miller Syncrowave 250 DX tigrunner package. One of the things I don't see available on the invertec 205 as an option is a water cooler, while the sync 250 DX can be purchased as a tigrunner package (with a water cooler). Is it necessary to have a water cooler when welding things such as exhaust pipes, roll cages, and small brackets? Thanks for your help.

You can get away just fine with an air cooled torch. It may get a little warm if you use it for a while but hopefully you can deal with that. Do me a favor and look here at this site. http://www.cyberweld.com/mildyn200dxa.html It is the Miller equivilant to the V-205. The good thing about the Dynasty 200 is that it is designed and made by Miller in the USA, and not just a bought product with red paint and a reputable name stuck on it because they are too lazy to actually build something themselves.

Thanks for your response. Could it be said that a water cooled torch is only needed when welding for long periods of time? The price on that dynasty 200 is great; it looks like for just under $3000, you can get the box, the torch, and an accessory kit. And you get a tig welder that is small in size, has pulsed tig capabilities, and generates enough amperage to weld some fairly heavy stuff.Syncrowave 350LX
