  • Another tungsten question

Well, I finally got my Dynasty DX. Now I have to figure it all out. My question pertains to what electrode types are suited for each job. I am mostly welding thin (22ga)stainless exhaust systems and .032-.125" aluminum sheet metal. However I would like to have all necessesary types of tungsten electrodes for any job they throw at me. Thanks, Andrew

Ceriated or Lanthanated tungsten run the best. You can use either for both Alum and steel. Remember, no need to ball tungsten. Sharpen tungsten for all metals.
    No pure tungsten.

I was just given a whole bunch of 2% Thoriated 1/8" electrodes, how do they run on alum/magnesium? Or are they just good for steel/stainless? Andrew

        They will run ~ok~.
The 1/8 is a little big though for most of the materials you will encounter. I even use 3/32 for my Alum head repair.
Try it, it was free and won't hurt anything

          electrodes

I thought the 2%thoriated were for DC only....Are you saying that they can be used on aluminum and AC? I have always used pure tungsten on aluminum and AC.

            Remember...
The Dynasty is not like any other welder.
You use DC tungsten for everything. NO PURE! The Dynasty doesn't like pure.
The AC wave shape makes DC tungstens better.
