Great machines! Vary comparable to the Miller Big Blue Pipepro in weld characteristics.

Turn the high idle rpm down to 60.5 to 61hz and it'll weld even greater after that.

          Vantage 400

The one i used had a Perkins. BEST PORTABLE EVER! Used very little fuel. We was using it in Kuwait running 7 days, 16 hours a day. 2 months of that was 115 to 135 degrees! We done everything from 3/8" CAC 350AMPS, 7018 1/8" SMAW, 0.45" TRIMARK FCAW. Never let us down.

I don't like the Lincoln vantage I would put my old 400 pipeliner against any new vantage machine

Being a Hyprid inverter, the Vantage 400 puts out pretty much pure dc through a modified wave form. Mind you that high idle rpm must be reduced. Unsure why Lincoln is setting the engines higher than specification (scope results) allow. It's like night and day dropping the engine down around 125 rpm. Its around 75 amps more output and its a way cleaner control.

Spent a day scope comparing a super tuned 305G to a Vantage 300/400, then final weld testing both.

Super tuning merely means I've adjusted the control board via a scope. and set the engine to my specification.

So with this super tuning how do they weld after And does it help with the sometimes erratic arc I've had with the 305G especially when burning lots of 3/16 7018?

                  Alot of variables,
                  IE, change oil to 5-50
change oil filter to recommended full flow
                  clean and adjust sliprings
change out sparkplugs to proper Champions.
completely remove Continental heat kit if you have one.

                  Set engine to 62.5 hz
Scope machine to exact wave form

                  Does it weld better, yep...

Nope, Champs are my choice on this machine. I've tried various plugs. The Champ wins out by far.

The RC12YC champ has a broader spark and takes heat better than its NGK BKR5E counter part, as well as outlasting the NGK.

In other words, I had to gap the NGK, pert near every time a machine came in for service. The Champ, pretty much never. Now I just toss them, and stick in the Champs.

Though its my opinoin and choice. It's your choice on what works best for you.
