Q. Can you use helium as a shielding gas for welding aluminum? (Submitted by: Jim L from Marshall,MO)
A. You sure can use helium as a shielding gas. It is usually used to increase heat and penetration for thicker alum. Be aware, your tig machine may experience harder starting of the arc. Helium starts harder than 100% argon, therefore you may want to try a mix of He/Ar to get the best of both worlds.
