Q. How do I weld 4130 chrome moly? (Submitted by: Rick Watts from Winter Haven, FL)
A. TIG, TIG, TIG is the best method to join chrome-moly. Use a 70 S-2 or 70 S-6 or 80 SD-2 filler wire for this. 4130 filler would not give enough elongation percentage for race car applications. Mig would require a controlled post heat treating of the chassis in a large oven, otherwise your weld joints become brittle and crack.
