  • MIG or TIG better for welding sheetmetal and mild steel?

    Q. Which is better for welding up sheetmetal and mild steel such as autobody? MIG or TIG, and gas-shielded or the flux in the wire? (Submitted by: REX GREEN from Childersburg AL)

    A. Most of the race teams in this area are using a mig/spot weld on thin sheetmetal using a 75/25 Ar/CO2 gas, and a small .023" ER70S-6 filler wire. The rest of the mild steel is also mostly MIG welded with a .030" size wire. Some teams are TIG welding everything together, but it is very time consuming. Thanks again - have fun!
