I have a $80 Hobart auto darkening hood. It was my first auto hood, I've had it for 2-3 yrs. I think it's time to upgrade. It would be different if I welded all day everyday, but I don't. I saw that the new Miller Pro -Hobby hood has a grind mode. I like the idea of that. It's relatively inexpensive and I was hoping to here from someone who has the hood for a real world review. I have an Elite that I have been using for a few years. I recently bought a Pro hobby as I needed another hood to leave on a remote job. I don't like the fact that I have to hit the On switch every time I pick it up to do a weld. My Elite is auto on. I noticed a sign at the LWS that the new ones were auto on, but all the ones at the weld shop, that just came in, were no auto on.
I also think the head gear is a bit cheesy compared to the elite headgear, it doesn't stay up as well, nor always go down to the right spot. It seems like a good hood, but I think I'd spend a few more bucks and get an elite. BTW an Elite sells on Epay for about $180
