18hp onan performer xls not starting

  • 18hp onan performer xls not starting

    i have a onan generator not starting ran it for like 10hrs then it ran out of fuel. put more fuel in it and tried to start it. would not start. it is getting fuel to the carb but i can get any spark from either one if he plug wires. any suggestions

    Check your OIL level.... if oil is low.. the low oil cutoff will keep it from running....

            where is the oil switch located on the engine. mine is a p218

              Under and to the left of the left hand sparkplug shroud. left/right looking at the face of the machine

                thanks. when did they start putting that switch on there. ive had this one about 6 years and i didnt get it new either! just wondering.

                  So.... sounds like it was the low oil cutoff switch... thought so...

                      i tried to jump the oil switch out. i just used a jumper wire against both prongs. nothing happened. maybe im doing it wrong?? does the connectors need to be off the switch to jump out. when i was jumping it out with it all still hooked up, key was on and it was activating my idle down and up silonoide.

                        Have you read through the "ignition system" section of the manual??

                          Whole thing seems wierd, I have had alot of problems with no start conditions with the plastic engine plug going through the fire wall, Usually corrodes there and I have to jumper wires through it.


                          Also had troubles with the coil trigger ( its under the flywheel )
