  • Is the Millermatic 130 big enough to weld car frame?

    Q. I am installing a 4 link suspension into a 1961 falcon. My question is, will my Millermatic 130 be big enough to weld a car frame? Also, what size wire do you recommend for the job? (Submitted by: John Frank from St. Louis, MO)

    A. I wouldn't try the MM130 for your suspension pieces. I don't feel comfortable using a 115 volt unit for critical frame welding, especially 4 link systems that are subjected to torque strain. I assume your 4 link kit has 1/8" to 3/16" mounts to be welded to the frame. I would use the new Millermatic 210 with .030 or .035 ER70S-6 wire. Make sure you clean the weld area well and grind down to bare metal. You'll like the 4 link over the stock set-up. Good luck and have fun!
