  • What is the best welder and wire type to use with air boxes?

    Q. We are welding together a large quantity of air boxes. They are fabricated from .080 thick 5052 alum. Because of the large quantity, we would like to MIG the box together on the inside with little or no burn thru. What wire type and size should we use? Also should we do this with a straight MIG welder or a pulse welder? Thanks for your help, (Submitted by: Gib Donovan from Unknown)

    A. I would use a pulse-type machine with .030 inch 4043 wire. The 4043 wire will flow easy and give a little nicer bead appearance. If you don't have a machine capable of pulse welding, Miller makes an alternative. The Millermatic Pulser is an all in one MIG / pulse MIG unit. It will do straight MIG like a normal Millermatic or pulse with the included spoolgun. Thanks again and good luck.
