Q. I have welded on race car chasis using 4130 seamless tubing for 20+ years. I have always used 70S-2 filler wire without stress relieving weld joints. Weld failures have never been a problem. I want to know if there is a better filler wire to use on 4130 tubing without stress releiving the weld joints? (Submitted by: john colloca from oswego,ny)
A. The ER70S-2 is a good filler for this along with ER70S-6 and ER80S-D2. The trick is to keep your arc length and fitup gaps to a minimum and not overheat the joint. It sounds like you have the touch. Keep it up!
