  • 250dx tigrunner

I purchased a 250 dx at a sale. I saw it weld the morning before sale and day of sale. Several people fooled with it that morning then it stopped welding no arc. The welder then sold for about nothing. I purchased it and did not really want it but the price was crazy low.
Everything else comes on ,gas flows when petals is pushed very small blue spark at tungston.
Any body have idea about problem?
    Thanks

It was still hooked up at work station when I purchased it. I have not wired it up here as I wanted an idea about if it should be worked on here or when a little more money is available take it to dealer.
      Thanks for reply

there may be nothing wrong with that welder at all otther than wrong switchology and messed up settings.....

why not download the proper manual for it and go through the hookup and settings step by step to make sure??

make sure you plug in your serial number to get the manual that matches your version sync....

Mine did the same thing, it had a fuse block on it. The fuse had a crack across it where it bends 90 degrees. The hf was jumping across the crack, but the power didnt. The only thing you had was a little blue arc.

Where is fuse located? Is it the one with brass clips in back where voltage is set? All of factory paperwork was in top drawer I did not se e fuseblock in partlisting. The serial number cl 4208** I don'tremember last two digets.

If you have a fuse block its between the machine and the torch. They are only used on water cooled torches.

I will also mention what might be merely obvious but can create symptoms you describe and that is a poor ground. Just check to be sure you have a good ground as well.

I had the same problem with mine, turned out to be a bad connection/connector with the ground lead, where it hooks up with the unit.

I hooked it up in shop Saturday. When it powered up the top read out had 190 and the lower had 043. In a few seconds the lower read out had 73. I checked the connections at base all were tight. The welder looks good it still has tags on it. I got a goldstar a plasma cutter a180 withspoolgun all in the one bid.
I don't know if the start up numbers will help figure out problem or not.
First of June my cnc man is coming to update mill control maybe he will have idea about trouble. Thanks for inputs and if you think of anything else to check please post it .

Set it up for stick and connect a set of stick leads, See if it will stick weld.
If it stick welds good, take a look at your torch, Water cooled torches have a habit of failing like you describe, Torch may have failed because the cooler was not turned on or is missing. A water cooled torch will weld for a short time with out coolant, but then it will fail. Most of the time they burnt a hole in the power cable or if you have a coolant fuse block it pops that fuse. A water cooled torch will have at least 3 hoses.

Have you tried arcing it directly to the ground? Try taking it off of remote and put it on panel so it will be scratch start. That might tell you if the problem is with the pedal. And like the guy above said, check to see if it has coolant in it and if the pump is working when the machine is powered on.

I tried going to ground and hooked up stinger and tried stick with 7018. The stick did not work either. I did notice the screws were not in pannels on right side like it had been worked on before and they were left out. Saturdays are the only days I can work on it so if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
