Q. I WAS WONDERING IF THE MILLERMATIC 251 WOULD BE OK TO WELD ON CAR FLOORPANS. I'M THINKING OF BUYING ONE BUT I ALSO WELD ON HEAVY EQUIPMENT - WILL THIS BE THE MIG WELDER TO BUY? WHAT TYPE OF WIRE SHOULD I USE TO WELD A ROLL CAGE IN THE CAR, AND WHAT TYPE SHOULD BE USED FOR HEAVY EQIPMENT? (Submitted by: tony from georgia )

A. The Millermatic 251 is the animal for you! It can do all your projects. The only thing I would do when welding floor pans and other thin material, would be to go with the .023 size wire. It will wet out nicer than trying to achieve good welds with an .035 wire. I have a few of these at Roush Racing and they love them.
I would use an .030 or .035 size ER70S-6 wire for my roll cage with 75/25 Argon/Co2 gas, and .035 to .045 ER70S-3 with either 75/25 or straight Co2 for the heavy stuff. The 100%Co2 will give added penetration but more spatter. Thanks for checking us out.
