  • Is pre-heating the weld location important?

    Q. Here in the Northeast the weather is usually cold in the winter months. I sometimes have a need to TIG weld Chrome-moly tubing in a non-heated shop, and have heard some say that pre-heating the weld location when it's cold is important for good weld integrity. Is this necessary, and if so why? (Submitted by: Bruce Craven from Sellersville, PA )

    A. It's a good idea to do this anyway. Preheat joint at about 100-125 degrees to remove parent material moisture.
