Q. I AM OPENNING A RACE CAR FAB SHOP, AFTER BEING OUT OF THE BUSINESS FOR TEN YEARS, AND JUST PURCHASED AN ECONOTIG AND MILLERMATIC 210. I KNOW THE 210 WILL WELD ANYTHING MILDSTEEL OR STAINLESS, AND ALUMINUM WITH THE SPOOL GUN, BUT IS THE ECONOTIG RIGHT FOR CHROME-MOLY DRAGCARS? (Submitted by: JOHN R. TIPTON from WEATHERFORD, TX)
A. The Econotig will do the Chrome-moly fine. It's a good machine all the way up to .125 wall but will have problems doing the light stuff under 25 amps. So I'd say anything .040 to .125 you are good. Eventually I would want to move up to a water-cooled Syncrowave so you can use the smaller TIG torches and have better adjustment of the amperage
