  • Aluminum question

I need to make some small panels out of aluminum. There will be some bending involved and bead rolling can I use 18 gage 6061 or do I have to work with a 50 series.

60 series will probably crack and won't be very easy to work with. If you bend it with the grain it can be bent some with out cracking but not much. 50 series I'd say for sure.

6061 T4... is pretty formable without fear of cracking...... do not try to do much with it in the T6 state.... it will crack at bends and be generally miserable....

you do want to make sure that you get "fresh" 6061 T4.... as that alloy "age hardens" and will transform to T6 state over time....
