  • A question from a home hobbiest Sync 200 vs 211 with spool gun for aluminum?

As the question suggests - which would be better for thin light aluminum projects. None over 1/8 inch thick and I am new to aluminum.

I have been doing MIG for 5 or so years and just started TIG this summer when I bought my new 200, then upgraded my old Lincoln 155 to the 211, I love both systems although I am still a beginner with the TIG, still practicing.

Thats kinda of a 6 of one half dozen of the other question. I mean the spoolgun would be quicker, but the tig will do the same job as well.

16g is about as thin as you'll wanna/can go with a Spoolgun using the MM211 and the bead is not that purdy.

The TIG gives you much more control... especially on the thin stuff......

but as always, practice on the type of material that you are contemplating using and be sure of your skill before you attempt anything that matters......

+100, just took my new aluminum radiator down to the local welder to have several feet welded to the top and bottom for mounting. I did not want to chance screwing up the brand new investment.

That type of project should be tig welded. It's not alot of welding and looks matter.
