      Gouging

LOTS OF GOUGING it will be used for welding also but do need gouging from time to time have had the need to gouge maybe 3 linear feet at once 4 times a day.

Well then IT WON'T BE A BOBCAT WILL IT?, a basic welder to run 1/4" would be a Lincoln sA200 gasser as its capable of putting out 385 amps. A lincoln 305G , 300D, 350D, Vantage 400, Red-D-Arc 3+3, a Miller trailblazer 302, Pro300, or Big 40G/D. There are others of course. But you need big power

You need something bigger than a 250 amp machine to gouge with 1/4" rods.

I don't know if you'll find a gas job big enough. At the minimum I would go with a 300D. I agree with the 350 amps for 1/4 carbons

A 305G will run 1/4" carbons. I burned quite a few with one.
Of course, there is always the scarfing tip. Probably the only way to be able to gouge and have a 250 amp machine.

If it was going to be LOTS OF GOUGiNG, I would go with a Airvantage 500 then you could run some decent size carbons.

What elese are you going to be doing with the machine besies gouging I would def buy the biggest machine you could afford. I would recommend the miller pro 300 or 350. If you are going to be doing alot of heavy gouging and can afford the $28,527.00 list price of the lincoln air vantage. But if you are pricing out the bobcat I believe you are on a much tighter budget.
Lincoln Vantage Kubota diesel 30 amp spool gun , Hobart 210 with spool gun, Thermal dynamic pak master 75, miller 304xmt all mobile all ready to go.

I got a Tb300D and it will gouge with 3/16.I have never tried 1/4" but i think it would struggle.I use my Big Blue 402D usually if i need to air arc.No need to beat the sm machine.JMO.
