  • Question on replacing electrode clamp for stick welder

Okay, I need to replace the clamp on my welder. It's made of fiberglass and is not in the best of shape, even accounting for its age.
So my question is this my search for replacements on Google (the company that made it is no longer around) showed me two possible types the US holder and the British holder.
Apart from tghe aesthetic difference, is there any advantage to using one over the other? Both hold the electrode, but is one perhaps easier to clamp, or more comfortable to use for long periods of time?
    Thanks

I like it simple, tweeco, take a walk around a real welding store and see what they have, what are others in your similar industry using. Any kind of clamp can be used. For long periods I would be more fussy, for general intermittent I don't care much what it is as long as it functions.

My preference is the Tweco "Short Stub" electrode holder. You can buy them under the Radnor label at Airgas pretty reasonably.

Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

I tend to like the smaller ones that fit my hand better esp with gloves on. The ones under 200 amps suit me at home...Bob

I use a 200 amp duro holder its a flat bar jaws, no springs on pins, to ware out, always found them to be great for all position welding

oh and you should alway, use a holder and cable that is rated higher then the ranges that you would be useing them in, so you aren't burning them up

you might want to think about the amp range you use, you should always use a holder rated higher then your ranges you are welding with for better conductivety, and you won't be burning them up

Check ATL Welding Supply on the internet

Some of the products on their website have excellent prices. I usually buy in amounts over $100.00 which means free shipping. I just bought a Jackson 300 amp holder for $9.99, new cutting tips for $5.00, 1/4 x100 feet grade T oxy/acet hose for $72.25, 25 Lincoln grinding wheels for $24.95, the grinding wheels are 5x1/4x7/8.
