  • 350p issue

have a 350p with 25ft Alumapro that sees 8 hour a day production welding. we are welding 0.100, 0.080, and 0.063 3003 series bright diamond tread. periodically we get a HLP 05 drive roll system error code. usually just clean it up, install a new liner and down the road we go.

today the machine started throwing the code again. the guy welding told me it was welding fine, then the wire speed would increase, and the code would be thrown. this is different.

    any ideas why?

i changed the liner in the whip and the gun. cleaned and inspected all three drive rolls. adjusted the tension on all drive rolls. this helped but did not cure it.

Hey Timberfab, had the same trouble last weekend. Wire feed would speed up and I would burn through the material. No help code was thrown but the machine switched out of pulse mode and I could not select the pulse mode again. Reset the machine and didn't have trouble after that. For me the reset solved the problem for now, but I have no idea what caused the problem.

Hope someone has an idea, good luck.

When you say reset do you mean to factory defaults? Or ?

Yes, system reset. It will reset unit back to all the original factory setting. Page 40 of owners manual.

I had been playing with all of the setting of my machine to tweak my results when I had the malfunction. I figured just like a pc might accumulate errors and start to malfunction so did my machine from continually changing the programing. The reset in my mind might have acted like a power down and re-boot for a pc.

        Hope that helps you out,

Any other 350p owners out there with advice or recommendations?

My 350P has not displayed any problems other than the owner/operator.... have had it for a few years and am still learning it...... awfully easy to get tripped up with the settings...

Timberfab, putting out 8 hours of production sounds like you might have that machine dialed in pretty good. I'm just a hobbyist but do alot of practice welds with different setting trying to find that sweet spot. I work with the same thickness material. This is how I have my machine set up and have gotten the best results:

            Arc Length: 45
            Sharp Arc: 25
            Run in Speed: 80
            Pre flow: 1
            Post flow: .2
            Hot start: off (I pre-heat)
            Crater fill: off
            Spot timer: 0

What kind of numbers are you working with?

I rented a 350P from the LWS a month or so ago to demo it for a product I weld. Turned it on had the help 5 come on. I ignored it and it welded fine, but I could never get a great weld. It came up a couple more times before she burnt up. No fire or anything but it toasted inside. I am sure glad I did not own the machine and that it was under warranty. Turns out multiple things failed that day, I did not get the list but a good portion of the internals went up.

It is fixed now and I am waiting to get my hands on it again. Hopefully with better results and less smoked parts.
