Anyone ever expierence problem with the HF start on a Dynastar 200? Im thinking it could be a grounding or problem with the cables, but i thought i would ask the experts on this forum.

Sorry for the lack of details (I am not a welder, although I do weld occaisionally, so i am familiar with some of the terminology).

Yes it is a Dynasty 200. All of a sudden, in the middle of a batch of parts (with no parameter changes) the welders tell me that it will not strike an arc unless you touch the part, yet it is in HF mode. We switched over to the Dynasty 300 that we have, but I was just interested if this was a "common" issue that had a known remedy. I can get the weld schedule, but like I said, no changes were made before it happened. I was just interested if this was a common issue with this type of equipment, and if so, what was the remedy.

      Thanks for the reply.

Early Dyn 200's seemed to display some intermittent arc start problems... they redesigned the arc start board to address this.. the newer iteration was Dubbed "Blue Lightning" (Blue Lightning units are Serial# LJ280222L and later)..
this prob was covered in several threads... do a search of older threads...

I tried searching for other threads, I guess I need to change my search criteria.

          Thanks for the reply.

                  HF start problem

I have the "Blue Lightning" Dynasty 200 dx, I have this problem off and on, let off the pedal, touch the tungsten to the work, raise stinger and depress pedal and it works. There seems to be HF at the torch, it just doesnt arc sometimes.

I have a torch that isnt in the best of shape and I get shocked when it does this if i dont have a glove on, so there is HF at the torch, just not arcing off the end of the tungsten. It only happens sporadically so I just deal with it.

prior to the "Blue Lightning" serieis

                      lowrider,

I had HF arc starting problems on 2 Dynasty 200DX's prior to the "Blue Lightning" series. I replaced the HF board in both units without any further problems. It's a quick fix if you are so inclined: 45 minutes to replace.

Since the Dynasty series is portable and you apparently have an extra GTAW machine (D300DX), take it to your local LWS for repairs. Maybe your unit(s) are under warranty.

on that search.... try searching those terms in the "forums" not the entire site

try a search (in the welding forum) with these terms:

                        dynasty, 200, arc, start

that should yield a list of threads... not all of them pertinent... but if you look through there will be some good info...

I'm having the same problems currently with my Syncrowave 250{1990 model** except it doesn't ever work...when my Output (Contactor) Control Switch is turned down to remote I get no fire at all, and when I turn it to on I have to scratch start it on AC which deposits aluminum on my tungsten and I get one pass each time before having to re-sharpen it....gets very tiring. If anyone has any tips I can try I'm up for anything at this point...

Thanks in advance for any help,
