  • Age of M225P?

Hello all! I recently bought a used, fully functional, miller M225P I found on Kijiji. I am fairly new to stick welding, up to now my MIG has taken care of anything that came along (not much is made with metal over 1/8 thick anymore). Now that I have a stick welder I am having fun getting the hang of a new process! This has led me to a couple of questions for the wise welders who hang out here.

How old is my welder? The manual I found here is dated 1969?

I am getting a really nice looking weld with good penetration on 1/4 inch mild steel using an AC7018 1/8 at 150 amps, how thick can this welder handle at 225 amps?

One of previous owners spliced an "extension" into the power cord using 20 feet of 10 gauge. The extra range is convenient but at full throttle my welder will draw 38.5 amps (according to the plate on the front of the unit. This seems a little high for 10 gauge. Thoughts?

Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for any insights!

      No match

My serial number is CB367. I don't see a match on the chart. Should I assume it pre-dates 1967?

          Yep, that's it

          Thanks for the links!
That is the manual for my welder all right. Miller should get some credit for maintaining availability of those old manuals. Makes it easier for those of us who buy older gear!
The manual is dated October 1969. I am a little surprised that my welder is that old. How long is the life span for one of these if well maintained?

That is a simple machine... if well taken care of, it should last for generations...
            Enjoy...

              10 Ga extention

Anyone have any thoughts on the 10 AWG "extension"?
