  • Asking for an opinion on Plasma cutter...

I bought a Syncrowave 200 from a local dealer here last month - yesterday I was picking up some supplies the salesman offer me a deal on a Miller 375 with case so I guess it is a 375 Extreme. He said $1,150.00 on the first go around and I am thinking about getting it....

He first said a couple months ago that he favored the Hypertherm units over the Miller as far as Plasma cutters go....so any opinions on the Miller cutters - specifically the smaller 375 unit. Oh, I am a home hobbyist, not a professional welders.

That's over $100 cheaper than what you found online. I'd call that a pretty good deal.

Just a general question for everyone that browses this thread. How much markup do you think on general your LWS store makes on a machine.

Yer right- guess I looked at the MSRP

anyhoo- retailers don't make much money on items like this- more so now with the access to so many vendors via the Internet. They make their $ on consumables.

Interesting comment - he claims his cost on this system is $1,025.00

I had just called him again and we agreed on $1,115.00, so I told him OK, I guess I will go pick it up this afternoon.

I know this is a Miller site and all, and I do fix alot of equipment for all brands, but for Plasma cutters I'd stick to Hypertherm or Thermadyne.

Hypertherm 30 has a few more amps than the 375. I think i've seen it for ~$1075 online as well.

                  Hey guys,
I also really feel that is no deal. Why in the world would anyone invest $1150(? +sales tax) for a 27A unit? All you can do with it is cut sheetmetal. I bought a 60A TD Cutmaster52 online w/free s/h & no tax for $1400. Economics 101.....

Well I might be sorry but.......I bought the Miller for $1,100.00 plus tax < 1200 out the door.

I will never need to cut anything larger than 1/4, the Miller is rated to cut up to 3/8.. and it is local for service if required. However, I could have bought the TD 30 for the same money. (I did not know this 'till I had bought the Miller.) The TD did not come with a case but I will probably never use the case for this Miller - it will go in the attic.

Thanks for the replies everyone - it seems most favor the the TD over the Miller so I hope I did not make a mistake or I can blame myself. Thanx! Again!!

looks good, txdarth. What is under the car cover in back???

Just a suggestion, you bought what fits your needs, no more, no less, if your needs increase in the future, just sell and buy new. Don't look back, don't try second-guessing yourself, just enjoy and use what you have. I myself would not be unproud of owning what you have.
                              Obviously, I'm just a hack-artist, you shouldn't be listening to anything I say .....
