  • Miller Syncrowave 351 TIG problem HELP

    :
All of a sudden having problem with holding arc. It will strike an arc for a short time then just hiss with a fine blue spark leading from tungsten to the work. I checked all connections and played with all settings etc but no luck. Worked fine before this.

    Does it work on stick?

I suggest that you try it on stick mode, and see what happens. That will give you some idea where to start looking, whether it will weld stick or not.

Note that if you see HF arc but no power, that points to a bad connection somewhere, maybe even a ground cable disconnected. ;-)

A customer of mine has a sync 250 with the same problem. I loaned him an extra foot control of mine, and now it works. He is ordering a new pedal.

      Check the foot pedal.

Wll, I'd guess that either your tig torch internal conduit is damaged, thats the reason for the HF only, or something is wonky with the footpedal like the last post

          Miller Syncrowave 351 help

Tried it in stick, works fine
I am going to check continuity in tig gun wire.
Hope that is all it is.

I know the 351 tends to be full featured... any chance there's a spot timer on there or something similar?

Best to try a replacement torch as continuity will still be fine if the conduit has 1 strand left touching

So it works on stick. Turn the machine off remote and to panel and see if you can scratch start an arc. Will be easier if you have lift start feature.

If it works, you may have a funky pedal. Most times it is the wire cable frayed apart.

He's still got on / off control and if in the control was damaged, the control would go back to the local controler, since he has next to zero output. I'd guess that his remote is ok. Besides I think he ran his stick on remote.

I think some of the Syncrowaves have the lift/arc feature. At least he could switch to it and weld. I still think the foot control has a bad potentiometer or broken cable wire.

My best reckoning is that I just went thru the same problem with a client.
It was the foot pedal. The old heavy duty sheet metal one. A new one from SSC controls is on the way for some $175.
