  • melted qiuck disconnect

Melted my quick disconnect on the ground side friday and have no idea why.
Was running LN 25 off a ranger 305 24 volts 50ft of 2/0 cable with 2ft pig tail on ground 300 amp clamp melted the rubber right off the disconnect on the pig tail side. Any ideas?? Thanks

I'm thinking that it's either too much amperage for the connection or the connection was loose. Both will produce a lot of heat.

What Jim said. And sometimes the cable gets loose or corroded in the coupler

Yup....it was the point of highest resistance somewhere close. I have had little things like that drive me bananas! Esp. on mig ground cables.
