  • 350P Tractor welding

A dude brought in a busted axle pivot bracket for me to make in my spare time. So I been fooling around with my mig a bit on STEEL!!!!!!

He brought the steel in. As you can see it wouldn't take much to improve on what he had. It is on a big ole IH with a front loader. Made in the mid 60's I believe.

Just a few more cause I know you guys dig pics.

It's been a few days back but I just wanted to post these. HMMM... let me see it was on pulse set on 247 WS with .045 Radnor wire ER70S6 and the rest of the settings I don't remember but it was nothing special.

The piece was made out of 1/2" mild steel and the tube was 3 1/4" OD and 1 7/8" ID
I still am amazed at the heat this machine cranks out. The chart said for 1/2" use 500 WS. That was so far out of my league it isn't funny. They musta meant 100% penetration with no prep.
I would love to have a big job with a bunch of steel welding on heavy stuff for this thing. I could have a lot of fun getting used to running it instead of just guess and squirt.

          Looks nice!

I find on mine I run just a bit more wire speed in pulse than the chart recommends. I'm using 98/2 gas though so that could be the difference. Looks like you got plenty of wet in at the lower setting.

On something that thick, I would have run the verticals up.

I did run them up when I laid the first pass inside the bevels I ground. On the cover pass I was getting such a big wet bead I set it up where it was going slightly uphill. I'm not much of a downhill guy on those big beads like I am when it comes to sheetmetal. It seems like it's gonna outrun me, so I stay with rotating the work if possible or uphill.
I wish I would'a had about a dozen of these to make. Almost like repair...about the time you get everything set up your done.

              350p

Nice work Fusion! I've got a set of those saw horses, and I made a 2' x 4' "table" that rests on them. Take some 2" (1/8") angle, build a frame so the lips set on the horses. I then used some 2" (1/8") flat and made half of it a cutting grate, and put a small recessed plate on the other half. Put a handle on it, and like magic, a portable work bench.

I used 1/8" material so it wouldn't be so heavy lugging it around.

That 350P really puts out a nice weld.

I know what ya mean about the big wet bead. I run the arc length way down to go out of position with it, or change to short circuit. Yeah uphill root and downhill cover works then. I shoulda figured you had that covered!

I have a pair of those same saw horses too. Yep, lay a 1/4" plate on top and easy instant table.
