  • mig set-up for trailblazer

gettin ready to purchase a trailblazer and am curios as to what's the best mig set-up for it to do regular flux and aluminum.

Actually those 2 require different set-ups.
Something more like the Suitcase 12RC for steel and then the 30-A Spoolgun with the WC-24 controller for aluminum.
    Hope that helps.

Well you can also run flux core or solid wire through the 30-A spoolgun but its not that feasible if you plan to do a lot of fcaw welding. I have a spool of stainless and light guage solid wire if Im in a pinch and need to weld thin guage stuff.

I haven't tried the suitcase wire feeder so I cant help ya there.

I've used my spool gun with aluminum, solid wire and flux core, like freelance mentioned it'll work if your in a pinch (it's the answer for aluminum). I DO have a 12RC wire feeder also, it's great if you have a lot of fab work or a big production job. If you don't want to deal with the extra control cable you can pick up a 12vs extreme, but I prefer the 12RC, especially if you want to hook it up to a shop machine (like the XMT 304).

I run a 22A feeder & a 30A spoolgun off my TB. Although the 22A is considered a "shop" feeder it does cost less than the 12RC. The drawbacks are it weighs more & it is not sealed from the weather so if you do a lot of portable in all kinds of weather it is not the way to go. The best setup in my opinion for aluminum would be a 30A spoolgun with a WC-24 & for steel a 12RC feeder with a 75' cable. If your going to need to be farther from your machine than 75', then get a 12VS.

I know Portable Welder on here uses a longer control cable than 75' and says it works fine, although Miller doesn't recommend it.
