  • filler metals

So i just bought a new used tig welder and am wondering if anyone could tell me which filler metals i would need to weld aluminum, stainless, and mild steel. I know i probably need to specify which types i will we welding but im not even sure yet. I would just like to buy a general purpose rod for each if there is such a thing. So could anybody tell me, or have a web sight that i could visit. Thank you

General aluminum welding, use 4043. Can also use 5356.
    General steel welding, use 70S-2.
    General stainless, use 308L.
    Kitchen stainless, use 316.
Unkown stainless, or stainless to mild steel, use 309.

Most common filler sizes to keep on-hand are 3/32, 1/8 and 1/16.

      Wait one more...

If you foresee someone throwing the galvanized steel curve at you,you can keep a pound of silicon-bronze size 3/32" on hand.Better rust resistance,Frank

Maybe i'm not so cheap as not to use proper fillerNot that the coat hanger cant work, but silicon-bronze works really wellPlus the idea is not to remove the calvanized coating so the rust resistant weld goes right to it.Otherwise i'd just use ER70S6 or ER70S2 and not care if it rusted or i'd paint it.If one goes to the extra expense of using galvanized steel(rust resistant) and you can avoid the welds rusting, why not do that?
