My friend only has a 6-30 receptable at his place but all my stuff has 6-50P on them. Is it safe to make a pigtail that has a 6-30P on one end and a 6-50R on the other so I can plug my equipment when going over to his place. With the exception of the ground, does it matter which wire is attached to each hot leg in the 6-50R since one is bigger than the other?
BTW, I'll only be running a Dynasty 200DX and a Hypertherm Powermax 30 at this place so I'll only be pulling about 20 amps.

The pigtail should work fine.
Makes no difference which wire goes where except grd goes to grd. The Dynasty will figure out the rest itself........ pg

I have two pigtails, so far, for my Dynasty. One has a 120V plug on it, and the other has a plug that fits my generator's outlet.

OK, now Arcangle's question and your reply got me to thinking about something I have not considered before.

So, now I have a question:
I am running my Dynasty on 3 phase 240V most of the time.
If I were to make up a pigtail having a 3 phase receptacle on one end and a 240V single phase plug on the other end I should be able to use the Dynasty with the pigtail plugged into a 240V single phase outlet.
The Dynasty will automatically detect the correct feed voltage, correct?

Yep. I believe it's the red wire they want you to not use for single phase.

I have to generate my three phase, so I just took the whole cord right out of my invision and ran a new one with only 3 wires (and made it a bit longer in the process).

I have 3 phase at the house, so I hooked it up for 3 phase without a thought,
There are places where I could use the 240V single phase however, so I need to make a pigtail.
After reading this thread I went to check the service manual and yes, you are correct. The red lead is the one not used for single phase hook up.
