  • Resizing pics: no more MS windows resizer

    Hey Guys,
I was using the windows resizer program from Microsoft Powertoys, but now that my computer crashed and burned, I'm using my wife's laptop. Unfortunately, it's VISTA and powertoys doesn't work on vista.

What do you guys use to resize your pics that's is free and easy?
    thanks,
    bert

    Bert,

    You can try these:

    A. Paint (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint). Open the image file, then go to Resize/Skew (Image > Resize/Skew)

    B. Free Image Resizer clone for Vista: http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone

    C. Image Grabber II (freeware): I can email it to you if you want to try it out.

    Jon

A lot of guys here and at SFT are using www.irfanview.com and can help with questions, though I have found it easy to learn the basics with.

THANKS MAC AND JON!!! I was desperate to do it last night, so I searched the internet, and uploaded something something vos something software.
They said it was just 1 extra click than the powertoys one....NOT!!!!!
I'll try yours and see if it's better.....
        thanks again,

          hi

          i use gimp -- a free image editing/etcing package -- for some
photo editing, retouching, digital darkroom stuff. among many
other things, it will let you resize a picture.
it certainly is complicated -- i doubt it fulfills your 'easy to use'
requirement. if one of the other suggestions works, i suggest
you use it. but if you can't find anything else, gimp will do the job...

you can find it at www.gimp.org

p.s. it's really big, so if your network access is slow, fuhgeddaboutit

            thanks fjk, sounds scary!!!
Jon, I was looking at yours, paint is too time consuming to upload each picture, and the other one is too new, no comments about it or anything:scary

Mac, I downloaded Irfan View, but when I tried it, the right click doesn't give you an option to resize. I have to go to image, then resize. which is ok, and there are LOT of things you can do with it, but if I resize, doesn it save the original for me like the powertoys did? or do I have to make my own set of copies first?
            thanks,
            bert

this thread got me curious. as it turns out, there is a help page
at the gimp web site that shows how to do simple things. the
very first is "Change the Size of an Image"
              the help is at
              http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Lite_Quickies/

fjk, that was cool!! now I can read that and understand better what is happening to the pic. I'll try out Irfan for awhile, if I don't like it, (or when and if I get my other computer running, I'll try yours!!!!

                        Question regaring Passport/Flux Core Welding

Does anyone know what to set the gas selector switch to when welding with Flux Core wire and not using gas? I just purchased this welder and the manuals do not indicate the setting for this. I will be welding mostly outside and wanted to try without gas before getting a larger bottle or trying to find a place to fill the smaller one?

Hi guys I finally had a free moment to try to catch up on the boards.

For what its worth Bert (and sometimes my opinion isn't worth much ) I use photobucket for all my message board forum posting. They now have a bulk uploader so you can select all the files you want and then upload in one shot. The super nice part I like is that you select what pic size you like such as mine is 600 X 800 and during the download your pics are resized.

It isn't a full proof website every now and then it will have a brain fart and freeze, a simple close the window and reopen solves it. From photobucket you can select from 3 types of links to post to the room. I hope this gives you another option to think about.

                              Good Luck
