  • welding 416 & 303 stainless ??

    NEED TO WELD 303 STAINLESS SHAFT TO 416 SPLINED SHAFT BUSHING.
    LOOKING FOR ADVICE. IS THIS POSSIBLE?
    WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A DIFFERENT ALLOY, BUT ONLY 416 AVALIBLE IN SPLINE.

    303 is not considered a weldable alloy of austenitic stainless.

    If it doesn't need to be that strong you could use 309 filler, but it's not a great plan. I would try to find a means of mechanical attachment bolt/set screw etc.

      Rud, what about Silver Solder or Brazing, Brazing can have 120K psi strengths or more, Check into Eutectic for their Product, and this sounds like a good match as long as the tolerance of your parts are in the right parameters, Hope this helps,Paul
