The " HEAT SETTING & SPEED " of it all

I have a Millermatic 135 for the use of mig welding sheet metal; gauages from: 18 to 21

QUESTION(S) PLEASE:

What heat setting and speed would you set your Millermatic 135 to if your welding 19ga.?

Also the following gauages please: 18, 20 and 21.

Hi Cruizer

GAS is: 75/25 I believe its: 75% Argon and 25% Oxigen.

WIRE Diameter: I'm using a .030 tip ~ if that helps you to help me.

Wire Manufacturer: Harris; Shotgun

Something like P J Harris; not sure on the P. J. However its a great wire.

It'll be 25% Carbon Dioxide, CO2.

I don't have the chart with me here, but you can download the manual for that unit, starting at the Service link at the top of the page.

I took a class a year ago using those, we used .023 solid wire for sheet. We were able to go by the chart inside the door, then tuned by ear.

I would highly recommend you visit this site. It will pretty much give you all the information you ever wanted about GMAW. In fact, you may never need to ask another question about welding at all after doing some extensive reading on this site.

In ans. to you questions are as follows:

Hard Wire: .030 J.W. Harris "Twenty Gauge Shotgun"
Gas Setting: 12lbs.

Hey Sberry

1. The Voltage is: (THE HEAT) setting on your welder.
What kind of welding machine do you have ?

2. The (THE SPEED) setting is the rate of speed the wire comes out of your
mig gun handle.

Sberry, These setting you must ADJUST as to what guage of sheet metal you are welding. Being new to mig welding myself. I recently made several test welds on 18 gauge s/metal. and wrote 'em down on a piece of paper.

When I found the 'HEAT' & 'SPEED' I was comfortable with; that would be the settings I'd use when welding 18 gauge sheet metal.

It sure does beating the ups and downs and burning thru my work. It take THE GUESS WORK OUT of trying to find the RIGHT SETTINGS when I working on my '66 Ford Mustang Convertible.
