GME Job Fair Set for April 28

MPC is finalizing plans for a job fair for its Garyville Major Expansion (GME) project on Saturday, April 28, 2007.
The GME Job Fair will take place at the St. John Community Center, 2900 Highway 51 in LaPlace, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. As one of the largest private sector construction projects underway in the U.S., the GME will create hundreds of job opportunities with all of the construction companies on the project.
“We are sponsoring this job fair to provide the residents of St. John Parish and the River Parish region an opportunity to be part of this major refinery expansion project,” said Rich Bedell, manager of the Garyville refinery.
A variety of skills will be required for the jobs associated with Marathon’s estimated $3.2 billion expansion of its Garyville refinery. Marathon and contractors hired for the project will participate in the job fair and will be recruiting for a variety of positions:
Carpenters and carpenter helpers
Cement workers and finishers
Crane operators
Direct and hydraulic equipment operators
Engineers
Pipe fitters and pipe fitter helpers
Rod busters
Welders
General laborers
Electrical, instrumental, mechanical, process and lab technicians
Ironworkers
Boilermakers
Millwrights
Supervisors and foremen for all crafts
Recruiters representing Marathon, Cajun Constructors, Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, Excel, Fluor Corporation, Industrial Specialty Contractors, L.L.C., James Construction Group LLC, Performance Contractors, Shaw Stone & Webster, Turner Industries Group, LLC and U.S. Trades will be on hand to discuss positions available with job seekers.
Representatives from Associated Builders & Contractors, Gulf Coast Workforce Development Initiative, Louisiana Technical College, National Center for Construction Education & Research and St. John Career Solutions will be represented at the event to provide information about education programs and job training needed for the available openings.
A shuttle bus service will be provided for those needing transportation to the event between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shuttle bus will pick up passengers at the Garyville Magnet School, 240 Highway 54, Garyville, on the half hour, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The shuttle bus will also make a stop at East St. John High School, #1 Wildcat Drive, Reserve, at 45 minutes past the hour, beginning at 8:45 a.m.
